A choice once made, however insignificant it may seem at the making; has the potential of changing your life. It's very easy to keep away from things that you know can hurt you, to close into a shell, to shut your eyes the moment night strikes. The tough part is getting on that bike and riding it out. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen is a wonderful story about Auden and Eli trying and eventually succeeding to be the latter. Auden West, who missed out on her childhood in order to be the perfect daughter for her perfectionist mother and Eli Stock, who feels guilty of his best friend's death; help each other in their 'quests' and try and come to terms with their lives. The bottom line remains, 'what defines you isn't how many times you crash, but the number of times you get back on the bike. As long as it's one more, you're all good'. Sarah Dessen, hasn't failed to amaze me yet another time with just the perfect blend of words in her story. Her books give me the courage to go on to collect my own pictures of 'the best of times'. An amazing book, just what you would need to get through the night of your lives to a new sunrise! Don't forget to take a large cup of coffee and get ready to go Along For The Ride! Happy Reading! :)

Before receiving the Advanced Reader's copy of Siege of Macindaw, I had never read the Apprentice Series. I wanted to read at least the first book before reviewing the newest copy to get a better understanding of the characters and I'm glad I did. Overall I really enjoy this series and will read more as I can! The strength of the Apprentice Series is the realistic way the characters develop and the world they live in. There is no orphan boy who was born with an inexplicable power or supreme magic item that will save the world to be found. Yes, the characters have natural abilities that help them, but they have to work hard for the skills that make them the heroes. They all make mistakes, but they learn from them. In this newest book in particular I liked how the main characters have grown. This is still very much a coming of age story. Even though Will is now a Ranger, he is still grappling with the responsibility of his command, especially when there are lives at risk. He has moments of doubt and worry, but still has the courage to face difficulties that keep coming. However, the drama is more than balanced by the many humorous moments in the book. The camaraderie between Will and Horace is easily one of the best parts of the novel. Those two alone keep things interesting! I also like any scene with the Skandians. (I think I have a weakness for silly Vikings/barbarians!) They are always good for a laugh. I will be recommending this book to any fantasy loving teens.
