CEMİLE YENİ ÇİZMELERİNİ GİYİYOR
I found this book fascinating. I loved the relationships with the women and I found myself searching the Bible stories to compare. It was really interesting to see how Anita interperted Bible stories we have all heard many, many times.

I read The Last Days of Dogtown because it was recommended by a friend as a wonderful story. I didn't find it wonderful. Another friend read The Red Tent and had such good things to say about it, so when I saw a used copy for $2 I couldn't pass it up. Then the book sat on my shelf for months. I picked it up each time I perused the shelf for my next read. I looked at the cover and read the synopsis and put it back because I assumed that any story set in biblical times would be a heavy read (and I really disliked The Last Days of Dogtown). I was always told to never judge a book by its cover and I should have heeded that. The story was easily understood and Diamont had just enough description to make me understand how things were, but not so much that I felt burdened by it. I don't know if it was just me (I'm usually tired when I read), but I did have to read the first 50 pages or so rather slowly. I enjoyed them or I wouldn't have kept going, but I read slowly. I really liked this story. I've got three children 9 years and under. I was ready to construct a red tent in my backyard during the first half of the book. Come on ladies, lets leave our differences at the flap of the tent, sit and be waited on for three days because we can't carry anything during "our time of the month". Let's tell stories and support eachother. When we leave the tent we'll be refreshed. Oh wait, you just had a baby? Hang out here for one or two months. Nurse your baby and take care of yourself. Because it was told through the eyes of a child it sounded like a spa weekend in biblical times. I had to get my Bible out to check the accuracy of the story. I know parts of the story of Jacob, but didn't remember everything. The lineage and the big picture of the story was there, Diamont added the day to day details. The second half The Red Tent, like the story of Jacob from the bible, took a turn which made Dinah's life in Egypt not so happy. That story was still good and I liked the strong person that Dinah became as an adult.
