I don't buy the narrator at all; this felt like exactly what it is; a woman in modern times writing about the 1660s. Sometimes I like it; there were whole chapters and groups of chapters when I couldn't put the book down; the portrayal of life in such impossible circumstances was heartbreaking and fascinating. Unfortunately, the book is so uneven in pacing, tone, and content that I couldn't like it. I was also surprised at the amount of sexual content, considering the setting and the themes of the book. It seemed the author threw it in just to get on the bestseller list.
One of my absolute favorite books of all time!
A very good mystery, the third from the author. Can't wait for his next book.
Read this a LONG time ago, need to pull it down and refresh.
