While not as good as the second in the King Raven trilogy, it does give some character development to Friar Tuck, who has long been regarded as a sottish, humorous character with little depth in most stories of Robin Hood. It also develops room for heroism to take another form rather than the swashbuckling type we're all used to. My wife and I enjoyed it it.
