i wonder if my high school english department has replaced the list of "precarious pitfalls" with this book?
This is the original "sequel" to "Ender's Game", though according to the author the idea for this book came first, and he only turned "Ender's Game" into a novel in order to be able to set up this book properly. It may seem strange then, that even though I loved "Ender's Game" and almost all of the Shadow series that followed it, I wasn't all that thrilled about this book. It wasn't bad. In fact, it was a pretty decent read. I've even reread it a couple of times. It's interesting enough, but the story moves to slowly. In my opinion, the author spends too much time sermonizing and exploring his neat little universe, so he lets to story lag. Of course, his most excellent character development keeps this book from anything lower than 3 stars.
