When I started the book I breezed right through it and actually enjoyed it. One third into the book things felt strangely similar and when Derek's sister Georgia is mentioned for the first time I knew what it reminded me of: Pride and Prejudice. That's when I read that Epic Fail is actually a retelling of Price and Prejudice. I was facepalming almost all the way through the rest of the book. I couldn't really enjoy the rest of it anymore, because the book followed P&P step by step. There were barely any changes made to the story and it was instead turned into a juvenile love story involving celebrities. But oh, she only has three sister instead of four and her mother is the principal instead of a stay-at-home mum. AREN'T THOSE HUGE CHANGES? Bleh. The most ridiculous thing were the names. The author didn't even bother to come up with her own names but simply changed the names a bit. A few examples: Elizabeth Bennett -> Elise Benton Lydia -> Layla Jane -> Juliana Darcy -> Derek and so on. It was really ridiculous. I couldn't focus on the story anymore, because if I wanted to read the story I'd read the original and not some copy with different names and a different setting in a different time. Plus the writing was awkwardly worded sometimes and forced me to read over it again, because otherwise I might have misunderstood something. Not that there was much to miss since we all know the story. Due to Epic Fail being a retelling of Price and Prejudice there were no surprises and everything I had suspected became true. That doesn't make for suspenseful reading. The name of the book fits perfectly, because the book itself is "fail".
A really interesting look at an almost post-modern fairyland. I really liked the reflection of the mortal world of the fairy world. After all, when it's popularly envisaged in fiction it's generally still a monarchy with King/Queen or Winter/Summer courts and the like. This "fairy land" is grittier, smogier and far, far more inventive. I especially loved the Puck cameo. ;D
oh my god I really love this book because it talks about things that really happens in a teenagers life. In this book a girl has a best friend who she hangs out with all of the time. But ten all of a sudden her freind splits on her when sh begins hangin out with the losers.
