tommy lee is not the quickest of cats, but i love this book cos it employs the narrative device of having tommy's unusually large genitalia give its commentary on certain events throughout the book.
This is a wonderful ending to a fabulous series. I especially liked the way the Emperor stepped forward to end the battle. I'm sorry to see this series end. Mr. Flanagan has created an amazing world of people and characters. I actually wish I could meet Halt, Will, Horace, Alyss, and Evanlyn. It will definitely be one I will pass on to my grandchildren. Girls will enjoy this as much as boys do.
Fun read and a return to the world of Trainspotting.
I've always been a fan of John Irving, but felt that this story was way too long. At 800 pages, it technically was! While I usually appreciate Irving's attention to detail and analysis of characters, the story seemed to get stuck in places. I did find his twist with Jack's memory to be an effective one; I enjoyed that facet of the book. In the end, I'm glad I read it, but I hope his next one has better pacing.
