this is the story of a young woman who seemingly follows her dreams by marrying a man and moving to an island to join his family and clan-like community. however, she finds that not everything is quite like it seems as she finds messages from her now-comatose husband written in the walls of rooms he worked on as a carpenter. i'm only going to say three things about this novel. 1) it's a quick and fun read--mysterious, strange, and filled with the dry, cynical attitude that pervades all of Palahiuk's work. 2) i'm pretty sure that the fictitious island that the main character moves onto is actually Peaks Island, Maine. it would explain a lot, is all i'm saying. and finally 3) i wouldn't be surprised if m. night shymalan picked up this story and adapted it to cinema.
I thought this was a good book because it is very misterious and also it kept me very interested in it. I gave it four stars because the girl in this book is about my age and she goes through a tragedy that is very sad. This book seems very realistic. I would like to read more books like it.
